Mentoring Male. An accredited award in mentoring boys and young men.
Workshop to be held at Inside Football, Brimscombe, Gloucestershire. March 29th 2017. 09.30 – 14.30.
How to effectively engage young males with education and provide routes into employment and socially responsible adulthood is a concern of many professions.
A lack of, or poor academic attainment by some young males has been implicated in:
- reduced occupational opportunities and social mobility across the lifespan,
- poor health outcomes in later life,
- a correlation with criminality.
Mentoring offers an evidence-based approach to improving school performance – and addressing concerns related to problematic behaviours. Taking action on improving educational performance and enabling boys and young men to achieve their potential is also about improving health outcomes across the lifespan.
The Unit Award in Mentoring Boys and Young Men is a Level 2 Award providing people who work with boys and young men with an understanding of mentoring work. The four hour workshop covering the Award criteria is delivered in an informal style at our AQA registered educational facility.
The course is suitable for anyone with an interest in mentoring work including sports coaches working in schools, teaching assistants and workers from community projects.
Each participant undertaking the Award will be provided with their own copy of the Mengage coursebook: Mentoring Male: A guide to mentoring work with boys and young men. The 32 page coursebook provides a background to the issues covered by the Unit Award and a reference source practitioners can refer back to when delivering work.
