Participation and discussion
Work with young men can be challenging? great? fun? rewarding? Working with sports students at a sixth form in Northamptonshire at the end of last week provided all of these attributes and others when a group of 15 young men undertook the Mengage Mentoring Male training. The course explores through a participation and discussion route mentoring work with boys and young men, with an aim of in this instance, sixth form young men mentoring boys at a lower educational key stage, to improve their educational attainment. For the young men participating it was also an opportunity to gain an accredited award, and to contribute to their school community and enhance their own skills. With a bit of laughter and banter thrown in for good measure – work with boys and young men should be fun!
The Mentoring Male training is suitable for anyone interested in mentoring work with boys and young men – sports coaches, teachers and teaching assistants, sixth form young men, and people who have interest in supporting boys through education and want to support their local school.
